Priority Sectors: Information Technology

The Ministry of Information and Technology has set in place a strategic road map to ensure that St. Kitts is well positioned in this rapidly evolving market place. A new state of the art National Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Center is now in operation, equipped with training rooms, video conferencing facilities and technical experts to nurture an e-knowledge society. The Government has already used the ICT Center to train over 1,000 persons in IT related course ranging from Introduction to HTML to Web Development, Web Programming and more. The number of students enrolled and passing IT and Mathematics at the high school level has been increasing steadily. And likewise, at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College the pass percentage in Computer Science (Associate Degree) have averaged over 90 percent for the period 2004 to 2007.

A major component of the new ICT Center is the small business incubator. The small business incubators offer affordable professional services and business space for small businesses during the early stages of their development. Hence, allowing new businesses to go through their latent stages in a highly supportive environment and thereby greatly improving their chances of success.

This new developmental thrust has already begun to bear fruits. St. Kitts is home to a growing number companies involved in Software and Web Development, Call Centers, Data Entry and Online Research and Credit Card Application Services.
