BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, OCTOBER 10TH 2009 (CUOPM) – An aircraft hangar is being erected at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport by Royal St. Kitts Beach Resort Limited as part of the St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA)’s business strategy of public-private partnership.
In a statement on Friday SCASPA said it has entered into an agreement with Royal St. Kitts Beach Resort Limited to construct a hangar at the
The white, open structure is currently being erected on the eastern side of the apron where it will be temporarily located until the northern side of the airport is developed according to the long-term master plan for the Airport.
“Hangar services have always been recognized as necessary to grow the corporate jet business in St. Kitts, and this hangar will be used to facilitate that business. Based on its investment, Royal St. Kitts Beach Resort Limited will have rights to use the facility free of charge. All expenses associated with the final relocation of the hangar will be borne by the investor,” said SCASPA.
SCASPA said it is ensuring that during and after construction, the hangar complies with safety and security standards required by the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority and the International Civil Aviation Organization.
“In addition, operational procedures required by the Authority have been communicated. These include disaster management strategies such as hurricane preparedness. So far, work has progressed smoothly without incident, and the hangar is expected to be completed later this month,” said the statement.
The hangar is being constructed under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) arrangement. This means that after a period, SCASPA will gain ownership of the structure and derive full rental income.
